Connor Fyfe

Connor Fyfe – Singer-Songwriter

Connor Fyfe is a thirteen year old Singer-Songwriter from Glasgow. A superb up and coming talent Scotland and the world should embrace, as they did Lewis Capaldi. This young man is going to be a household name one day soon. A Tour de force, he owns the crowds at his gigs like a veteran. He tells us about his music and songs.

Editor: I can’t recall what I was doing at 13 years old….kicking a ball against a kerb no doubt, playing tig with a bus! What Connor is doing astounds me, he fully embraces who he is, his music and gets out there and performs it and writing his own songs too ! This young lad is going to have a very interesting career…

We asked him how he became a musician/songwriter and about his music.

Q: What first got you into music, how long have you been playing and why the guitar ?

“I just always loved music so wanted to do it myself, I’ve played guitar since i was 7 or 8 and its still my favourite instrument”

Q: Who are your main influences – are they the same for song-writing and singing or do you have different ones for both ?

“I love the Beatles, the Stone Roses, Radiohead, stuff like that, as well as newer stuff so guess I’m influenced by that. I don’t really have separate writing influences”

Q: How do you approach writing a new song – what processes do you go through. Is it melody first, or guitar/chord progression ideas come first, or is it both, or does it all differ for each song

“To be honest, I think it’s been different every time. Last couple has been music first, then lyrics, but I’ve learned there’s not really a right or wrong way”

Q: What are your main topic areas for Song-writing

“I don’t like to go in with a topic because then its specific, i like when people hear it and take what’s relevant to them from it.”

Q: How do you get ideas for songs, do you listen to other songwriters/music artists – Have you had writers block and if so how do you cope with it, just leave it until it’s ready to come out, or fight to write ?

“I do get writers block, but I would never force it just to get a song done, it comes eventually.”

Q: Do you have a band or do you prefer solo performance ?

“I’m going to be playing with a band fir the first time at my album launch so ill need to get back to you on that one”

Q: How was your new Single “DON’T” recorded – in a studio, or Home Studio, who produced it and how did you finance it ?

“Last year I recorded a live cover set with Andy Anderson and it turned out good. He invited me back and I’ve been working on my writing with him since. He is producing my album and his studio and don’t was a stand out single”

Q: Have you had any interest from Labels or Publishers ec ?

“I’ve had a few labels get in touch and can’t say much more, will see how that goes..”

Q: What make/model of guitar/s and equipment/gear do you use and why ?

“I have a Fender semi acoustic and a Fender Stratocaster American Pro and I love a Shure SM58 mic. I love Fender guitars and its the mic I have most experience with and i have got used to them. I use a Mackie PA system when i use my own and love my RC30 loop pedal”

Q: What’s the plan with the single and for 2020 – more gigs – any albums / more singles etc ?

10. I’ve lots coming up. My debut album launch Sat 29 Feb, room 2 in Glasgow. Tickets on Skiddle. Have a bunch festival announcements coming up as well as some support slots. I will be writing more and releasing some songs later this year but just concentrating putting my album out first

Q: What stumbling blocks have you had as a music artist or Songwriter/Composer ?

“Writers block and my age”

We asked Connor to elaborate on age being a barrier, he said “Lot of people might not take a 13yr old seriously until they hear them and a lot good gig venues are over 18s”

Connor’s debut album is coming soon….we wish him well with it and every success with his music.
